Economic calculation for forestry

Courses objectives

  • Be familiar with the methods of economic calculation. Know how to apply economic calculation to a wide variety of problems, including, but not limited to, the forestry sector.
  • Master the underlying assumptions of economic calculation, its field of validity, and its limits.

Course contents

Private economic calculation, public economic calculation, accounting for uncertainty, valuation of non-market goods and services, forest management, forest valuation.
Objective: To introduce auditors to forest economics and enable them to make better economically sound decisions and to help them better understand and evaluate the decisions of other actors in the forestry and wood sector

Courses and tutorials (40h).

Course evaluation

Examination, oral presentation of a paper, group work.

Target skills

  • Know how to model and solve an economic calculation problem such as cost-benefit analysis applied to the forest. Be able to estimate the value of a forest plot.
  • Be able to determine the optimal threshold for cutting a forest or a tree.
