Course objectives

Acquisition of the insight necessary to understand the recent advances and controversies in ecology of tropical treed communities as a basis for the evaluation of environmental policies and projects.

Course contents

The course provides an introduction to the structure and functioning of forest ecosystems and tropical savannas. It addresses the determining factors, characteristics and certain consequences in terms of management and conservation. It also addresses some of the environmental controversies that tropical forest ecosystems are subject to.

Teaching and learning methods

  • Lectures (6 hours).
  • Reviewing-based thematic bibliographic analysis (12 hours) and discussion with external experts (8 hours).

Course evaluation

Evaluation of thematic analysis (oral and written).

Target skills

Basic scientific knowledge for the ecological management of tropical forests and their resources, and a critical assessment of local and international actions regarding management of tropical forests and some other natural resources.
